Emergency Calling Notice
Last updated: 28 September 2026
1. Read this before you rely on Salket
Salket is an internet calling (VoIP) app. It is not a replacement for a mobile phone or landline. Emergency calls made through Salket may fail, may be delayed, or may reach the wrong emergency service.
Always keep another way to call for help, such as a mobile phone or a landline. If you have one, use it for emergencies.
This notice is part of our Terms of Service. You must accept it in the app before you can make outbound calls. Please tell anyone else who might use Salket on your device about these limits.
2. How emergency calls work in Salket
Where we support it, you can call 911, 999, 112 or 000 from Salket. The call is carried by Twilio, our carrier, to the emergency services.
Emergency calling is not supported in every country or on every number. If it is not supported for your number or where you are, Salket cannot connect you to emergency services. Use another phone.
3. Register your emergency address
For US, Canadian and UK numbers, you must register an emergency address in the app. This is the address where you are using Salket. We send it to emergency services with your call, so they know where to go. In the US, this is called your "dispatchable location". Include your street address and, where it applies, your floor, suite or apartment number.
Keep it up to date. Change it in the app every time you use Salket somewhere else, even for a short time.
If your address is missing, wrong or out of date:
- your call may be sent to a national emergency call centre instead of your local one, which adds delay;
- your call may reach the wrong emergency dispatcher, in the wrong area;
- help may be sent to the wrong place.
4. When emergency calling may not work
Emergency calls through Salket may fail or be limited:
- During a power cut. If your phone's battery is flat, or your router or internet equipment has no power, you cannot call.
- If your internet connection fails. Salket needs working Wi-Fi or mobile data. If your broadband or data connection is down, slow or congested, the call may not connect or may drop.
- If you move. Emergency services receive your registered address, not where you actually are. If you have moved your device and have not updated your address, help may go to the wrong place.
- If your number is from somewhere else. If you use a number from a different area or country than the one you are in, your call may go to the wrong emergency service, or may not connect at all.
- While your address is being registered. After you add or change your emergency address, there can be a delay before it reaches the emergency services' databases. During that time, they may not receive your address.
- If the app is not working. Salket must be installed, signed in and able to run. A crash, an out-of-date app, a phone that blocks the app, or a service outage at Salket or Twilio can stop the call.
- If your account or number is suspended or closed. A released number cannot make calls.
- If the call drops. Emergency services may not be able to call you back, or may not see your number. Tell them your number and location at the start of the call.
5. United States: FCC notice about VoIP 911
This section is the notice required by the US Federal Communications Commission (47 CFR §9.11(a)(5)).
911 service through Salket is different from traditional 911 service on a landline or mobile phone. It may not be available, or may be limited, in these situations:
- Relocation of your device. If you use Salket somewhere other than your registered address, emergency services will receive the wrong location unless you update it in the app first.
- Use of a non-native telephone number. If your Salket number belongs to an area other than where you are, your 911 call may be routed to the wrong emergency centre.
- Broadband or internet failure. 911 will not work if your internet connection fails, or if it is suspended or congested.
- Loss of electrical power. 911 will not work during a power outage if your device or your internet equipment loses power. After power returns, you may need to reset or reconfigure your equipment before you can call.
- Delays in updating your location. There may be a delay before a new or changed registered address is available to emergency services through their location database.
If Salket cannot pass on a dispatchable location, your 911 call may be sent to a national emergency call centre. The operator will ask where you are, which takes longer.
By accepting this notice in the app, you confirm that you have read and understood these limits. We keep a record of your acceptance.
6. Canada
The same limits apply to 911 calls from Canadian numbers. Register your address, keep it current, and tell the operator where you are. If your address is missing or out of date, your call may go to the wrong 911 centre.
7. United Kingdom: 999 and 112
This section explains emergency access and location as Ofcom requires.
- Access. Where supported, you can call 999 or 112 from a UK Salket number. Access depends on power, a working internet connection and the app, and may not work during a power cut or internet outage.
- Location. Salket does not send your device's live location. Emergency services receive the address you registered in the app. If that is out of date, they may send help to the wrong place. Always tell the operator where you are.
- Advanced Mobile Location (AML) is a feature of your phone's built-in dialler. Calls made through Salket may not send it. Use your phone's own dialler for 999 if you can.
- emergencySMS (texting 999 for people who cannot make voice calls) is not available through Salket.
8. Other countries
Where Salket supports emergency calls in other countries, such as 112 in the European Union or 000 in Australia, the same limits apply: it needs power, an internet connection and the app, and may not be able to send your location. Where emergency calling is not supported, you cannot use Salket to reach emergency services.
9. Our liability
We will do our best to make emergency calling work where we offer it. But because of the limits above, our liability for failed, delayed or misrouted emergency calls is limited as set out in section 16 of our Terms of Service, to the extent the law allows. Nothing in this notice limits liability that the law does not allow us to limit.
10. Do not misuse emergency numbers
Do not make test calls or hoax calls to emergency numbers. Misuse is a breach of our Acceptable Use Policy and may be a crime.
11. Questions
Email support@salket.com if you are unsure whether emergency calling is supported for your number, or how to update your address.
